Mineral Fusion - Minerals On a Mission Review

I absolutely LOVE finding makeup that's free of harsh chemicals. All of the cosmetics I currently own are cruelty free, and I won't be adding any products that AREN'T. I recently had the pleasure of trying out Mineral Fusion cosmetics, and I really enjoyed the products I was sent to review.

Dr T's Supergoop! - Cruelty Free Skincare

I'm always on the lookout for new products to share with my readers. If you've been a fan of our blog for awhile, then you already know that we strive to find chemical free products; hence why we're the NonToxic Hammers! There are a lot of companies out there that fall into that category, but that doesn't always mean we recommend their products. After receiving several items from Dr T's Supergoop! line, I can tell you that this is a company you'll love!

Crayon Rocks - Soy Wax Crayon Review

While holiday shopping for my little artist, I stumbled across Crayon Rocks. They are rock shaped crayons, that are made from all natural, organic materials and colored with pigmented minerals! Being that we're a non-toxic family, you can imagine my excitement when I found these. Now granted, a lot of crayons and markers are labeled "non toxic," of course but are they naturally colored? No, and that's what made these stand out to me.

A "NonToxic Childhood" for Little Girls

I'm sure it sounds funny, "nontoxic childhood," but as a parent, it’s a phrase I think of often. We don’t live under the most strict lifestyle criteria, but we use as many all natural ingredients in our cleaning and skincare products as we can. We also removed all the plastics in our kitchen and cheap toys from our children’s collection
.
Our children were the primary reason we decided to go non-toxic and, in general, why we decided it was time to make wiser, more informed decisions.  We’re not just following a certain lifestyle criteria for them; however, we do it for ourselves and the betterment of our world (as much as we can control). Why?

Well, why not? Recycling doesn’t take that much more effort if you know it’s what you should do and you understand the overall impact one family can have on contributing to recycled goods and their availability. While avoiding harsh chemicals and toxins in your products isn’t the easiest thing to do (replacing shampoos, soaps, laundry detergents, cleaning agents, etc. …) it CAN be done.

The NonToxic Hammer Family has grown ....

Meet Sasha!

Sasha is our newest addition! She's a 17 week old Olde English Bulldogge. We just love her to so much!
She came to us leash trained, house trained and is great with the children. The jury is still out on her relationship with our cat, Zombie. She just wants to play and well, he does not. Soon enough they'll realize neither of them are going anywhere and they will just have to get along, right? :)

With her short fur, and her particular breed, she needs to be kept warm in extreme cold. Here is a picture of her in her first sweater! So cute. I can't wait to build up her wardrobe (don't make fun of me!)

Sasha is following our NonToxic lifestyle, and she also eats an all natural diet, just like us. I'm waiting on an all natural, non toxic shampoo for her to come in the mail soon. I'll be posting about that once it arrives and we try it out.

My sister and I decided to start a dog bakery business, but there will be more on that in an introduction to the business post later on. I decided to go ahead and start trying out some recipes. I made pumpkin cookies for Sasha and some of her furry friends and they were a big hit!

These cookies have been quite popular and we've been shipping them out to all of our long distance fur friends! If you'd like to order all natural, homemade pumpkin cookies for your dog email me at gia@nontoxichammers.com to place your order. Sleeves contain 7 mini cookie treats: $3.50 and the Bone Stacks have 3 medium size bone cookie treats: $3

We're all getting into the Halloween holiday feel with pumpkins and big comfy sweaters, what are you doing to get ready?

The Green Garmento - Reusable Garment/Laundry Bag/Hamper

Do you have plastic bags hanging in your closets that hold your delicate garments? Do you carry laundry to the laundromat in a plastic bag?  If you've been with us for any length of time, you'll know we just can't stand plastic in our home and especially can't tolerate plastic waste. Plastics take a long time to decompose, and even when/if it does, it degrades down to a molecular level - to tiny sized plastic toxic molecules in our environment (and that process can take a century).

In my never-ending quest to  find eco-friendly household alternatives, I came across a solution for all those plastic single-use garment bags. The Green Garmento! This garment bag is more than just a garment bag, though.

Reduce Your Plastic Habit with Glass Dharma

When we began removing plastics from our home to reduce toxic exposures, (we said good bye to a LOT of food storage) I never really thought the box of plastic drinking straws that we had in the cabinet were toxic. We don't really use them, except for crafts sometimes. Luckily for all of us, the plastics used to make straws are low risk, but I'm not too sure if BPA is used to make any. Straws are actually good for children to use, they help develop speech articulation and oral motor skills. I would assume that if straws were to in fact, contain any harsh chemical, it'd have to be heated (melted and thus destroyed) or chewed upon to release toxins. That's a different post.

Ok, so straws aren't measurably toxic, but are they really environmentally necessary? The single-use straws get dumped ALL over the place and end up in our waterways and landfills. Plastic drinking straws can take years, if ever to completely degrade. The NTH family doesn't really jive with creating unnecessary waste and we wanted a solution. So I did what any normal busy Mom would do, I "googled" it.
I found a lot of different solutions; bamboo, stainless, and glass straws. I pulled up a tab for each type, the glass ones jumped out first. The first link up...

Glass straws?
...gasp... but you have small children!
